Unlocking the UFL: Houston Roughnecks VS Arlington Renegades

When two teams are fourth in their divisions, people may expect low scores or high scores on both sides, but fans likely wouldn’t expect a blowout. The Sunday night game was anything but expected. 

As someone who has been covering the Houston Roughnecks quite a bit in the last few weeks, I’ve gotten used to getting after them to up their performance. This week, I will have more praise than criticism. Keep it up, Houston!

First Half

It took no time for things to heat up in Houston. Arlington forced and recovered a fumble on the first punt of the game. The first points were put on the board when the Renegades made a field goal.

J.J. Molson made the score equal in the second half when he made a field goal as well. The roughnecks were not looking rough this week. Reid Sinnett started this week again and made a TD with a successful two-point conversion to finish the first half out 11-3. 

The Third & Fourth Quarter

Things didn’t turn around for Arlington in the second half, either. Sinnett connected with RB Mark Thompson, who made a 10-yard TD rush. The Renegades attempted to make up the difference with their own TD, leaving the score 17-9. 

No points were earned in the fourth quarter. What started out as an exciting game ended in a nothing-burger quarter. 

Over all, the game was more eventful than most were expecting. The Houston Roughnecks also now have a win, with an overall record of 1-3 . Hopefully, the Arlington Renegades can put a win on the map at some point soon. 

UFL MVP(s) of this Game:

Reid Sinnett is turning things around as of week 4. He made some solid plays this week and led the Houston Roughnecks to their first win. We saw glimmers of potential in week 3, and there’s an indication of more under the surface. Sinnett played his first full game last week, so we’re giving him time to get into the swing of things. He gets the M and half the letter V in MVP. 

Luis Perez, the quarterback for the Arlington Renegades, gets the other half of the V and the letter P in MVP. How is that possible when the team is 0-4? He gets those letters because of his effort. Perez is leading the UFL in passing yards with a whopping 881 yards. He has a pass completion percentage of 63.2%. That’s not the best PCT, but it’s pretty middle of the pack. 

Hopefully, Perez can work together with the rest of the team and put those passing skills to good use. The Renegades still have time to turn things around!
