‘At This Stage’: Fabrizio Romano Drops Update on Chelsea’s Links to £18 Million Premier League Defender

Chelsea have experienced certain issues defensively in the first few months of the 2023/24 season, conceding eight goals in their last two Premier League games. Thiago Silva is 39 and nearing retirement, which is why the Blues have again been linked to a move for former defender Marc Guehi.

Chelsea’s Links To Marc Guehi  Clarified

Are Chelsea Going To Sign Guehi In January?

Amid claims that the London heavyweights have entered the race to sign the Crystal Palace centre-back, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that this is only a case of a club like Chelsea following his development in the Premier League.

He adds that despite the 23-year-old being linked to a move away from the Eagles, there has never been any concrete negotiations between Chelsea and their London rivals over a possible transfer. The journalist adds that it is normal for a major side like the Blues to follow his situation but they have not taken a major step forward in bringing him back.

The Londoners had actually sold Guehi to Palace in 2021 for a fee of around £18 million and have been made to regret that move. The Englishman has since gone on to become an England national team member and one of the best centre-backs in the country, and he was even linked to a possible move to Manchester United earlier this year.

What Is Chelsea’s Priority In January?

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are unlikely to have a quiet winter transfer window after the turn of the year as they look to resolve some of the issues within their squad. The Blues have been reported to be prioritizing the potential signing of Napoli forward Victor Osimhen in January but will find it tough to sign the Serie A sensation.

Chelsea might be willing to sell Trevoh Chalobah in the winter window too, which is why they are looking into potential replacements to sign. However, Guehi will not be cheap at all. He has made 96 appearances for Palace since joining them two years ago and helped them keep five clean sheets in 12 Premier League games this season.
