USA Hockey has announced that Detroit Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde, Ottawa Senators associate coach Jack Capuano and Pittsburgh Penguins assistant coach Ty Hennes have been named assistant coaches for the USA Men’s World Championship team.

The 15-man roster was announced on Wednesday. Among those players, Brady Tkachuk ( Ottawa Senators) and Cole Caufield (Montreal Canadiens) stand out the most.

Lalonde returns for a second year to coach the USA at the World Championship where the Americans fell in the bronze game to Latvia. Lalonde has served as the Red Wings head coach for the last two seasons after spending four seasons as an assistant coach for the Tampa Bay Lightning where he helped the team earn Stanley Cup titles in 2020 and 2021.

Capuano just completed his fifth season as associate coach for the Senators. Capuano guided the USA to a bronze medal in the Men’s World Championship in 2021 as head coach. He was also an assistant coach for the USA for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. Prior to his time in Ottawa, Capuano spent time in the ECHL, AHL and NHL, including as head coach of the New York Islanders from 2010-17; he accumulated 227 wins and led the team to the postseason on three occasions.

Hennes completed his second season as an assistant coach with the Penguins and will be on the bench with USA for the first time. Hennes worked with Penguins players returning from injury, including during the Penguins run to Stanley Cup titles in 2016 and 2017. He then served as the Penguins’ skating and skills development coach before being promoted to assistant.

The USA will be coached by Minnesota Wild head coach John Hynes. USA will take on Sweden, Germany, Slovakia, France, Poland, Kazakhstan, and Latvia in the preliminary round.
