Steelers' Omar Khan, Mike Tomlin still open to blockbuster WR trade following NFL Draft, 'we'll see'
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Steelers left the draft with glowing reviews and a report card anyone would be happy to bring home.

Part of that draft class included stud third-round pick Roman Wilson, who can walk into the league as a productive player.

But even if you're high on Wilson, a realist knows that asking a rookie third-rounder to be the second-best receiving option on a playoff contender is no small feat.

The Steelers know it too, leaving all options on the table:

Steelers Still Open To Trading for Veteran WR

“Yeah, we’ll see,” Steelers GM Omar Khan said when asked about a potential trade in his post-draft press conference. “I’ve said it before. If there’s ever an opportunity to improve the team, we’re going to look at it, and if makes sense, we’re gonna go after it. We restructured Alex’s deal. It puts us in a position to be flexible with some things if there’s an opportunity to do something.”

The opportunity to do something is still alive with Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, and Courtland Sutton all on their receptive teams after the draft weekend.

That favors the Steelers since not only did those teams use valued draft capital on rookie WRs over the weekend, but it allows Pittsburgh to acquire the targets with draft picks in 2025, instead of giving up the present value of this weekend's selection.

That makes things a lot easier on the Steelers. As detailed oriented as their scouting department is, we are still so far out from next years draft that parting ways with anywhere between a first and fourth-round pick is a lot easier to do when you compare the unknown to proven producers like Deebo, Aiyuk and Sutton.

Now there have been numerous reports linking the Steelers to all three players, but the latest chatter is that things cooled when the respective teams (49ers for Aiyuk and Samuel, Broncos for Sutton) were rumored to be asking for too much in return for the WRs.

But with time removed, if the aforementioned teams feel comfortable with their new additions and Pittsburgh feels like another weapon will take the team over the top, a deal could come together fairly quick.
